The Stanley Foundation and the American Council on International Intercultural Education (ACIIE) convened a conference to discuss "Building the Global Community: The Next Step."
This 1994 conference was intended to:
- Clarify community college goals in global education.
- Articulate a clear mission statement.
- Determine strategies to construct a plan of action to implement global education in all US community colleges.
The mission statement reads:
To ensure the survival and well-being of our communities, it is imperative that community colleges develop a globally and multiculturally competent citizenry.
The conference report outlines a plan of action for you to consider in implementing global education on your campus. The plan specifically focuses on the value of community colleges having partnerships with select public and private institutions, the availability of new technologies, benefits of dialogue with higher education officials in other nations, the importance of coordination of global education efforts, and of the need to celebrate global education activities and accomplishments. |
