The conference began with special pre-conference workshop on CCID International Membership. The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Birde Berg from Denmark and Dr. Mary Atchison from Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia. A great discussion among workshop participants resulted in several team presentations, the findings of which were incorporated into the suggestions presented to the CCID Board of Directors.
Saturday late afternoon and evening belonged to those interested in learning more about the city of San Antonio. A local travel agency organized the Walking Tour of San Antonio for our participants. The tour concluded with a barbecue dinner at a local restaurant along the Riverwalk.
Sunday afternoon time was devoted to two Pre-Conference Workshops.
One on the Mini-Toolkit on International Student Recruitment was presented by EducationUSA advisors from advising centers in 5 countries (Turkey, Togo, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Chile). Workshop was by facilitated Ms. Debbie Hefferon from The Colelge Board, Ms. Judy Irwin from AACC, and Ross Jennings from Green River CC in Washington.
Second workshop was on World Languages Education and was presented by Dr. Cheryl Berman (Howard CC) and Dr. Robert Frost (Parkland C).
On Sunday evening a group of about 285 guests offered a warm welcome to the Sunday Banquet Keynote Speaker - Dr. Troy Justesen, Assistant Secretary of Education, Office of Adult and Vocational Education, U.S. Department of Education. His speech was very well received by all, and spurred many discussions.
Monday morning Plenary Session "Thinking Again, and Anew, about Global Education in the 21st Century” was presented by Dr. Margaret Lee, President at Oakton Community College.
The lunch time on Monday was traditionally reserved to the W. Kubsch Award Ceremony - the winner is Ms. Linda Korbel, Dean of Humanities and Languages at Oakton Community College and former Executive Director of ACIIE. Linda received a standing ovation for all of her work for ACIIE and for promoting global education among community colleges. Congratulations Linda!
Sy Fersh Memorial Lecture on Scotland's 500-year history and how it relates to the present, was presented by Dr. Craig Thomson, Principal at Adam Smith College in Edinborough, Scotland and President of Scotland Colleges International.
Those who stayed through Tuesday had a chance to attend an evening reception for the CCID members accompanied by a lesson of salsa given by Dr. Jaime Torres. Music was irrestisible and so was the atmosphere - the dancing lesson was enjoyed by many!

Tuesday plenary presentation by Dr. Sabahattin Balci, Principal at Cankiri Technical College in Cankiri, Turkey. Dr. Balci provided a comprehensive overview of the Turkish higher education system.
At the closing of the conference, a raffle was held for the 1-free night at the Westin Hotel. And the winner is --- Jose Velasco!!! Congratulations Jose!
